Audience Research - Results

I created a survey monkey to analyse peoples response to music videos and what they do and don't like to appear. This is useful to me so I know what people may want to see in my music video.

This shows that most people watch music videos and therefore they currently quite popular. This would mean that hopefully most people would watch my video.

The results for this question show that the majority of people like a music video to have a narrative although some also said they didn't like to see a narrative unfold. This means that my music video could contain parts of a narrative to please some viewers but doesn't have to have a narrative in order to attract viewers.

From this question we can see that pop is currently the most popular genre closely followed by by dance and then RnB. I will take this into account as these are the top 3 rated genres so in order to please my target audience I should create a music video in the genre they're interested in.

These results show that the majority of people wanted to see dancing in a music video, however it was closely followed by people who only sometimes liked to see dancing. In order to resolve this I will make sure that my video does have some dancing in but that we don't solely focus on dancing, this way we will please our target audience.

As we expected the majority of people said yes to wanting the artist to be featured in the music video and only a small amount said they didn't want to see the artist.

From these results we can see that for the majority, nothing really put them off when watching a music video when it was to do with colours. However, sepia wasn't liked by many so we will make sure we don't use that in our music video.

Most people prefer to see a music video take place in multiple locations therefore we will try to incorporate this into our music video and make sure we use more than one location when we shoot.

Most people agreed that a music video can detract from the music itself and in the next question they said why.

The most common answer as to whether the music can detract from the music itself and this was mostly because they thought the video was unrelated to the music. They also thought there was too much diegetic sound which was unnecessary.

From these results we can see that even though people listened to a song they didn't automatically buy the song. This means we need to think about the way we release our music video and on which platforms we make it view-able to the target audience.
