Website & CD Covers Research

In order to gain an understanding of the style and layout of websites and cd covers for our genre we researched some other rapper's websites.

We looked at Kendrick Lamar's online presence first. He has an official website with links to his music on streaming services. He has his most recent music video on the front page of his website with links to itunes in order to buy his songs.

Similarly to Logic, the majority of the images that come up on a search have a black and white filter. We will have to take this into consideration when creating our artists image and website.

The website is minimalist and has links to iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify. The background of his site is his album cover which further promotes the album, which is an example of maintaining consistency among his products. His CD covers all have dark colours with black and white filtered images rather than colour. Also they have minimal writing on them and are mainly just the image and album title.

I also looked at 50 Cent and his online presence. Straight away when you search for images of him almost all are in colour, the minority being black and white filters. On Google he has links direct to his website and to Apple Music where you can listen to his music.

His website was also very simplistic as it featured the image of his newest album cover as his main background and then a list of the songs on his new album are presented in bold font.

You can easily download his current album just by clicking on the picture which takes you straight to iTunes. The colour scheme isn't dark like usual rap artist websites but it does stick to 3 or 4 dull, sandy colours.
