Reflection #2 - 18/09/15

During this week, we have learnt and discussed representations within the media world, especially in music videos. It made me think and question about the ways in which men and women are viewed within a music video. Whilst doing some independent research I found that the majority of people who played up to this and continued to participate in this stereotype were mainly individual female artists such as Beyonce, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna to name a few.  But are they in control of how they are viewed and the fact that most of their videos involve the camera sectioning their body, or performing in few clothes? For someone like Miley Cyrus, I think yes, she knows her target audience and she aims to please them but she does it more for herself, because it's the image she controls. Whereas someone like Beyonce, in my opinion she does it in order to keep her audience captive, she's controlled by the media as the way in which they portray her is important to keep her viewers interested.
